SBT accounting software was developed in the early eighties and has since evolved
into one of the better families of full-featured accounting systems available. Its greatest advantage over competing packages has historically been the relative ease with which modifications can be made to it. SBT has always provided the complete source code of their software. SBT now has versions of its software written for Foxpro for DOS and Foxpro for Windows, and is currently developing in Visual Foxpro.
My experience with SBT modification:
- In 1985, I first began working with SBT for my oldest client, Professional Products & Services, Inc. of Sauk City, Wisconsin. Many modifications, enhancements and upgrades saved them client time and money. Soon after implementation, the number of Professional Products customers, salesmen and transactions more than doubled, but it was not necessary to increase the number of staff processing those transactions in that time.
- The Bouquet Connecton had me modify their accounting system for their unique business. They "manufacture" and distribute bouquets to grocery stores throughout Wisconsin.
- World Dairy Expo has used SBT to track their exhibitors for both their Dairy and Beef expos, and is using it as they take over administration for the Dane County Fair, and the Greater Madison Golf Expo as well.
- MPI, Inc., a Madison perishables distributer implemented a heavily modified SBT system to track their product - and margins - from order through delivery.
- Wisconsin Clearinghouse has used a modified version of SBT Accounts Receivable for several years to track orders and print invoices for their products.
- Bavaro, Ltd., of Monroe, WI uses an SBT enhancement that I designed and implemented to cost their replacement windows and awnings.
These and other clients have all benefited from using SBT as their accounting system. In some cases, SBT right out of the box met their needs. In other cases, extensive modifications were required. In still other instances, I developed mission-critical subsystems and integrated them seamlessly into the accounting system.
