BEARSKIN BIKE TRAILOne of the prettiest trails anywhere, the Bearskin starts in Minoqua and weaves its way south for 22 miles through gorgeous northwoods scenery. Hillier than most trails, you'll find quiet lakes, plentiful wetlands, and multiple stream crossings.
I got on the trail at the end of Blue Lake Road and filled up my water bottle at the rest stop overlooking Blue Lake. From there I rode to the trail head at Highway K, about 9 miles south. I spotted some loons on Blue Lake close to the trail and paused to take a picture, then it was off on the most beautiful trail I have yet to ride.
You'll find mostly gentle hills as you head south, but there is one good sized mound where the trail leaves the railroad bed. You'll need to crank in your lowest gear to get top the top, but at least the hill itself is paved. For many miles past the hill, you'll cross and recross Bearskin Creek. At some crossings you'll see spreading wetlands, and at others you'll view lakes in the distance. Other times the creek is narrow and rocky as is courses below the narrow bridge you've ridden over.
At one point a boardwalk through a wetland area offers a chance to observe wetland flora and fauna close-up. There are also some long bridges traversing wetlands. Picnic tables and other amenities are scattered along the trail. On peculiarity of this trail, especially nearer Blue Lake, are the many signposts on cross trails that lead to resorts, restaurants, and attractions.on the many nearby lakes.
