THE SAINT CROIX

From its source near Solon Springs to its outlet at the Missisippi, the Saint Croix river is canoeing at its finest. My favorite stretch is downriver from County T near Dairyland . A day's paddle will take you through dozens of small but fun rapids in a pristine wilderness setting.

Smallmouth bass and muskies are abundant in this river and usually hungry. There are campgounds nearby this National Wild and Scenic River.

Another good day's paddle is either the St. Croix or the Namekagon and the St. Croix down to Riverside. If you choose the latter, you can paddle up the Totagatic a ways and get three beautiful streams for the price of one. The river is fairly wide here, but there are some easy rapids.

Interstate Park on the river farther downstream has some interesting rock formations you can paddle to and plenty of campsites.
